Knowledge Products

The following knowledge products have been created as part of this project to better understand the linkages between climate change and food systems, characterize what is going on in communities with regards to action on these issues as well as inspire usage of the maps as a tool for knowledge exchange and partnership development. The products are also meant to help inform future policy, funding areas and program planning for climate change adaptation and food systems development in the North and are targeted to a variety of audiences, from research, policy and community.

Asset Mapping Summary Report

Published March 2019

This report summarizes the two asset inventory maps and discusses strengths and challenges within the system. It helps to lay the foundation of knowledge of where we are now in order for us to become a more resilient, food secure and climate adaptable territory.

Literature Review

The Impacts of Climate Change on Traditional and Local Food Consumption in the Yukon

Published April 2018

This scoping literature review identifies changes and adaptation measures to climate change in the Yukon Food System. Namely, it explores the current state of knowledge regarding food and climate change in Yukon (and other similar geographic regions), gaps in knowledge/understanding and existing baseline data and methodologies of interest which might inform future research.

Story Map

A story map is a web app that combines interactive online content, images, video, text, and maps to tell a story. This This story map, “Stories of Food, Culture and Community Resiliency”, tells the story of the interconnections between climate change and food security along with community examples of resiliency and adaptation.

Youth Champions

Between 2017-2019, 41 Indigenous youth from across the territory (and beyond) were trained as Climate Change Champions; they learned to assess the changes that are going on across their homelands and prioritize actions for community-led adaptation.

Community Gardener Gatherings

Yukon Food Security

The Yukon Food Security Roundtable (2016) was a key moment for food security planning in the territory. Yukoners from across the territory, working in diverse sectors of the food system gathered to share what was going on in their communities/organizations and identify a vision as well as some principles and priorities for moving forward together.
